Mülheim an der Ruhr

The city's name gives it away: The Ruhr characterizes Mülheim an der Ruhr more than anything else. Many idyllic meadows, lots of greenery along the banks and agricultural areas on the outskirts of the city make it easy to forget that you are in the middle of the Ruhrgebiet.

The RuhrtalRadweg meanders over 14 km through the middle of Mülheim's urban area and offers numerous opportunities for entertaining or exciting stops: for example, at the new city harbor in the city center with relaxed breaks on the beautiful Ruhr promenade. The Aquarius Wassermuseum in the listed water tower and anchor point on the Route of Industrial Heritage is dedicated to the element of water in all its facets, and the water station on the lock island is not only worth seeing, but also a landing stage for the White Fleet excursion boats. Another highlight of industrial culture is the world's largest walk-in camera obscura with its museum on the prehistory of film. Mülheim also has a lot more to offer in terms of culture - for example the Mülheim an der Ruhr Art Museum - one of the RuhrKunstMuseen - with masterpieces from the early 20th century and the Ringlokschuppen and the renowned Theater an der Ruhr are also well-known institutions beyond the city limits.
